Data Sources and Attribution

Wikipedia Content: Historical events displayed on our homepage are sourced from Wikipedia, a free online encyclopedia. This content is used under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 International License (CC BY-SA 4.0).

In compliance with this license, we:

  • Provide clear attribution to Wikipedia as the source of historical event information
  • Include direct links to the original Wikipedia articles for each event
  • Maintain the same CC BY-SA 4.0 license for any derivative works we create from Wikipedia content
  • Do not claim ownership of Wikipedia-sourced content

Important Notice: histai.net is an independent platform and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by the Wikimedia Foundation or Wikipedia. We use Wikipedia content in accordance with their open license terms. For the most accurate and up-to-date information, please refer to the original Wikipedia articles through the links provided on our event cards.

Other Content: Our blog articles are our own intellectual property. User-submitted historical stories are owned by their respective authors but licensed to us for display on our platform as described in our Terms of Service.

Third-Party Services

We use trusted third-party services to operate our platform:

  • Hosting and Account Services: Providers help store data, keep the website available, and support secure account access.
  • Payments: Payment processors handle billing and subscription transactions under their own privacy policies.
  • AI Processing: AI service providers process your prompts, settings, and uploaded images to deliver the tools you use.
  • Content Safety: Moderation providers review submitted and generated content for compliance with our safety rules.
  • Communication: Email providers use your email address and message content to deliver account and service messages.
  • Analytics: Analytics providers process usage and device information to help us understand traffic and improve performance.

We share content and account or transaction information relevant to the requested service with these providers. Their own terms, privacy policies, and retention practices apply to their processing. Processing may occur in countries other than your own. Contact us if you need more information about a provider involved in your task.

NSFW Moderation and Safety Data

We process content to enforce the safety rules in our Terms of Service. Automated checks cover prompts, uploaded photos and reference images, generated results, and text or images submitted when creating or editing public stories. These checks apply to all plans, including the one-time free generation.

  • Content reviewed: Text, photos, and generated content may be processed by third-party safety services.
  • Safety records: We retain review outcomes and related service records to investigate reports, resolve errors, and prevent abuse.
  • Temporary content: Content used for review may remain in temporary storage until routine deletion, including rejected content.

Moderation can prevent a request from running or a result from being displayed. If a check cannot be completed, we stop processing rather than release unchecked content. Automated decisions can be mistaken, and may not identify every issue. You can ask us to investigate a decision at [email protected] using a task identifier or page link; do not include prohibited imagery in the email.

Photos may reveal faces and other sensitive personal details. Upload only images you are entitled to process, obtain any required permissions, and avoid including unnecessary sensitive information. Provider retention and use of content are governed by their applicable policies; this page does not promise that third parties immediately delete content or never use it for model improvement.

How does HistAI use cookies and tracking?

We use cookies and similar technologies to:

  • Keep you logged in to your account
  • Remember your preferences (such as theme settings)
  • Analyze website traffic and usage patterns
  • Support ongoing tasks and related account activity

You can control cookies and local storage through your browser settings. Disabling them may affect sign-in and other features. Clearing browser data does not delete your account or records held by our services.

Data Storage and Security

We implement industry-standard security measures to protect your personal information:

  • Encrypted data transmission (HTTPS/SSL)
  • Secure password storage using industry-standard hashing
  • Account authentication and ownership checks on generation task access
  • Restricted access to personal data
  • Secure cloud infrastructure

While we strive to protect your data, no internet transmission or electronic storage is 100% secure. We cannot guarantee absolute security but continuously work to improve our safeguards.

How long does HistAI retain data?

We retain your personal information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide services. You may request account or content deletion by contacting us. We review requests and explain any information that must be retained for legal, billing, dispute-resolution, or security purposes. Deletion from active storage does not necessarily remove backup copies, external caches, or copies held by service providers immediately.

Public and private content: Stories you publish are public and may be copied or indexed by others. Uploading a photo to an AI tool does not itself publish it as a story. You can delete your own stories through the available story management controls. When requesting account deletion, specify whether you also want your public stories or comments removed. Removing an account association does not by itself remove personal details contained in a story or comment.

Retention depends on the type of information:

  • Account and usage records: Retained as needed to provide your account services and manage usage allowances.
  • Subscription and credit records: Used to manage billing, balances, charges, returns, and disputes. Payment providers may retain separate records under their own policies and legal obligations.
  • Generated results: Saved in your account History until you delete them using the available controls or request deletion.
  • Temporary uploads and review copies: Normally scheduled for deletion within seven days of storage. Rejected content is not necessarily deleted immediately.
  • Safety and operational logs: Used for troubleshooting and investigating abuse or reported decisions; retention follows the relevant hosting and provider settings.
  • Published stories and comments: Remain public until removed under our content policies or an approved deletion request; search engines and other parties may retain copies.

You may request early deletion of your published content by contacting us at [email protected]. We will review such requests on a case-by-case basis.

Data Breach Notification

In the event of a data breach that may compromise your personal information, we will notify affected users and relevant authorities as required by applicable law, within the applicable notification deadlines. The notification will include the nature of the breach, the types of information potentially affected, measures taken to address the breach, and recommended actions you can take to protect yourself. We will also report such incidents to relevant regulatory authorities as required by applicable data protection regulations.

What are your data rights and choices?

You have the following rights regarding your personal data:

  • Access: Request a copy of the personal data we hold about you
  • Correction: Update or correct inaccurate information
  • Deletion: Request deletion of your personal data (subject to legal requirements)
  • Portability: Receive your data in a portable format
  • Opt-Out: Unsubscribe from marketing communications
  • Restriction: Request limitation of how we process your data

To exercise these rights, please contact us at [email protected].

Children's Privacy

Accounts are not intended for children under 13. A photo uploaded by an adult may nevertheless contain a child's personal information. Uploaders must have any required permission and must follow our content safety rules. Contact us if you believe a child's information has been submitted without authorization or needs to be removed.

International Data Transfers

Our service providers may process and store data in the United States and other countries. Your information may be transferred to, stored, and processed in countries other than your country of residence, which may have different data protection laws than your jurisdiction.

The location and safeguards applicable to a transfer depend on the provider and the service configuration. Contact [email protected] for information about processing related to your account or request. Any consent or other safeguards required by applicable law must be addressed separately; use of the website alone is not a blanket waiver of your data protection rights.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices or legal requirements. We will notify you of significant changes by posting a notice on our website or sending you an email. Your continued use of histai.net after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
